Our Story

MeatWorks Africa was a long time in the making. Launched in 2020 during the “global pandemic”, we needed a way to satisfy friends’ cravings for our legendary barbeques. Unable to host friends at our usual backyard bashes, we came up with a way for you to enjoy the same taste in the comfort (and sterility) of your own home! Welcome to the new normal for barbeque.

Our barbeque marinades are family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.

We initially launched with our two signature products - nyundu and beef mishkaki. We continue to grow our menu with new options and currently we have already added a boneless chicken tikka, lamb mishkaki as well as a couple of veggie options! These are marinated to order. We use only the finest cuts of meat, fresh ingredients and use no additives, no preservatives and NO TENDERIZERS! Ever.

Our Mishkaki

Our classic mishkaki is made with only the best quality premium rump steak, sourced locally from Kenya. WE NOW OFFER A LAMB ALTERNATIVE with the same great taste! The meat is cubed and then lathered in our signature marinade which is packed full of flavour. When cooked correctly, the mishkaki has a bold and juicy taste thanks to the unique recipe and quality marbled meat.

We also sell reusable metal skewers which you can pick up with your first order. Wooden skewers can also work, but we aim to minimise our environmental impact by offering you a quality set of reusable ones!

Uncooked Nyundu (or Nundu)

Our Nyundu

Nyundu is a local specialty that is not available in most parts of the world. It comes from the hump of Boran cows which are prevalent in this region. Nyundu is a very fatty meat and this is what makes it so unique and perfect for grilling. It is similar to bacon but 100% beef!

We get the nyundu sliced very thinly, which allows you to cook it thoroughly and get the outside charred and crispy. We cover the beef in our signature Nyundu rub before vacuum sealing it for your enjoyment. The nyundu also comes with a sachet of our nyundu rub, which you use to make a sauce for basting and serving. Simply add some lemon juice (and water if you find it too intense – believe us, it can blow your taste buds away).

Use the sauce for basting while cooking and again after removing the meat and slicing it. Make sure you serve this piping hot to truly enjoy our nyundu experience.
